Sheikh Saliou Mbacké

An international consultant, Sheikh Mbacke served as the continental coordinator for Inter-faith Action for Peace in Africa (IFAPA) from 2003 to 2013, based initially in Geneva, then Nairobi, and then in Dakar. He is among others an advisor to the World Faiths Development Dialogue (WFDD) for a family health project in Senegal and a program coordinator in West Africa on faith and development for the Population Reference Bureau (PRB).

A spiritual leader of the Mouride family, a core institution of Senegalese Sufi Islam, he has lived within that tradition since birth. He was educated in Touba in the Islamic Qur’anic tradition, then at the University of Tunis and University of Salamanca in Spain. He worked as a journalist in Spain, a collaborator and translator for Amnesty International in Tunisia, and taught languages (French, Arabic, and English) in Tunisia and in Spain. He was a member of the International Selection Committee for the Niwano Peace Prize of the Niwano Peace Foundation in Japan until 2018 and has collaborated with the UN on Religious Defamation and Climate Change.
